HEPATITIS B. BIOTECHNOLOGY METHODS OF TREATMENT

Abstract
Hepatitis B is one of the most common viral diseases of the modern world, is on a par with cancer and AIDS. About the spread of the virus indicates the presence in the blood of the people of the surface antigen of hepatitis В virus (HВsAg), which is the main component of this pathogen, and on the basis of which are preventive drugs – vaccines. The first vaccine was created in 1971 on the basis of the blood of chronic carriers containing HВsAg. Development of methods of cleaning the surface antigen of hepatitis B virus has become a prerequisite for the creation in the early 80 th of XX century the so-called «plasma» vaccines. However, such vaccines are very dangerous and have several disadvantages. Therefore, they were replaced by recombinant vaccines, the production of which is based on DNA technology. The newly created drugs have been widely used for the prevention of hepatitis В, which significantly reduced the number HВsAg-carriers. Such vaccines are safe to use because it does not contain blood components, through which there is a risk of contamination with other pathogens. Genetically engineered vaccines are produced by culturing the recombinant yeast cells which synthesized surface protein. The most promising producer to obtain HВsAg, and subsequently to create on its basis the vaccine, there methylotrophs yeast Pichia pastoris, which are characterized by high level of production HВs-protein compared with the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
