Abstract
The new method of determining the vertical wind shears in the atmospheric boundary layer with the use only of “horizontal” route is proposed. The measured velocity of sound in the leeward direction grows with the height, in consequence of which the deviation of the acoustic wave “to the earth” from the initial direction occurs. This wave is registered by the receiving antenna of locator, which moves along the earth relative to the transmitting antenna. The relationships are obtained which make it possible to calculate wind shear (vertical wind speed gradient) according to the measured shifts of the carrier frequency and modulation frequency on the basis of the special features of the Doppler Effect in the inhomogeneous media. During a comparatively simple performance of the receive-transmitting equipment it is possible to ensure a relative error of measurement in the wind shear at level 10-2.
